7 Examples of Scholarships For Link Building Campaigns

Launch a Specialized Scholarship Program

In 2019, I launched a specialized scholarship program targeting computer science students that generated over 50 high-quality .edu backlinks for less than $2,500 in total investment.

The program offered a $2,500 annual scholarship to students pursuing degrees in computer science or related fields. What made it particularly successful was our unique approach – instead of just asking for grades, we required students to submit a detailed proposal for an app that could help local small businesses.

This creative angle accomplished two key things: it attracted genuine applications from engaged students, and it gave university administrators a compelling reason to share our program. The requirement for real-world problem-solving aligned perfectly with educational institutions’ goals.

The scholarship page included clear eligibility criteria, straightforward application instructions, and transparent selection processes. Most importantly, we maintained consistent communication with university financial aid offices, which significantly increased our success rate in getting the scholarship listed on their websites.

Over six months, we reached out to 200 universities and secured listings on 54 .edu domains. The key to our high conversion rate was personalizing each outreach email and following up consistently – I found that many universities needed two to three gentle reminders before listing the scholarship.

Beyond the valuable backlinks, this program actually led to several innovative app ideas, and we ended up hiring one of the scholarship recipients as an intern. This added legitimacy to the program and helped us maintain relationships with universities for future opportunities.

For anyone looking to replicate this success, focus on creating a scholarship that provides genuine value to students and aligns with educational institutions’ goals. A clear structure, professional presentation, and consistent follow-up are essential.

Develop a Scholarship for Digital Marketing

In one of our local SEO campaigns for RED27Creative, we developed a scholarship program aimed at students pursuing degrees related to digital marketing and technology. This initiative wasn’t just about offering financial assistance but also involved an essay submission requirement. Participants had to write about the future of digital marketing, which we published on our blog and shared with relevant educational institutions.

The key to its success was the dual focus on value and visibility. We provided students with a platform to showcase their thoughts while simultaneously generating quality backlinks from educational blogs and university websites. Over a span of 5 months, this program boosted our referral traffic by 30% and significantly improved our SEO rankings, eventually leading to more high-value leads in our target sectors.

This approach can be replicated by ensuring the program aligns with your brand’s core values and that you promote it through strategic partnerships with educational entities. It’s essential to offer genuine value to participants while creating content that naturally attracts authoritative backlinks.

Collaborate with Healthcare Education Providers

Our strategy at Clyck involved collaborating with healthcare education providers to launch a grant program aimed at supporting innovative projects. We provided financial backing and strategic guidance, ensuring our efforts were closely aligned with medical and health fields. This initiative fostered relationships with educational institutions and resulted in multiple high-authority backlinks from these organizations to our website.

The key to our success was relevance. By targeting projects that aligned with our expertise in digital marketing for healthcare, we ensured the grant resonated deeply with the target audience. The recognition we gained in these educational circles boosted our credibility, strengthening our reputation as a healthcare marketing leader.

We tracked an impressive 25% increase in organic traffic from educational domains, validating our approach. This not only improved our SEO rankings but also improved client trust and satisfaction, driving further business growth.

Create a Cultural Grant Initiative

At Twin City Marketing, we leveraged our digital PR expertise to create a standout link-building strategy through a cultural grant initiative. We partnered with local artists to offer grants that funded community art projects. This initiative was pivotal not only because it supported the arts but also because it aligned with our commitment to community engagement, which made it authentic and valuable.

The success of this strategy hinged on genuine community support and quality association. By focusing on an area closely tied to our community identity, we naturally garnered links from authoritative local platforms like cultural publications and community blogs. These backlinks not only improved our SEO but also strengthened our position as a community-centric brand.

To measure impact, we tracked an uptick of 25% in organic traffic from these high-quality links. Moreover, the project increased our local brand recognition substantially, further distinguishing Twin City Marketing as a leader in merging community initiatives with digital marketing prowess.

Focus on Local Business Digital Marketing

I’ve had great success with our ‘Local Business Digital Marketing Scholarship’ at YEAH! Local, where we award $1,000 to students who create innovative local SEO case studies, resulting in backlinks from over 30 college websites. The key was making it hyper-focused on our industry niche and requiring students to solve real local business challenges, which naturally attracted relevant .edu domains and created genuine value beyond just link building.

Target Tech Innovators with Scholarships

In my experience as the CEO of Ronkot Design, a successful scholarship program I developed was the “Tech Innovators Scholarship.” This initiative targeted college students who were creating tech-based solutions for real-world problems. The scholarship required detailed project proposals, which generated substantial interest across universities nationwide.

The key to its success was tapping into my roots in marketing, and nurturing a network of tech influencers and educators who shared the scholarship information on their platforms. This strategy naturally accrued backlinks from educational websites and tech industry blogs that were keen to highlight innovative student projects.

By carefully documenting the recipients’ progress and achievements in a series of case studies, we further leveraged this momentum to improve Ronkot Design’s reputation. The scholarship not only generated quality backlinks but also lifted our brand as a nurturing ground for future tech leaders, which resonated well with our target audience.

Partner with Local Educational Institutions

One successful approach I’ve used at RankingCo for link building involved partnering with a local educational institution to develop a digital marketing scholarship program. We created a meaningful scholarship for budding marketers, offering monetary awards to help them pursue their education. This initiative gained traction in the community, generating buzz and earning us backlinks from reputable educational websites, supporting both our SEO and branding efforts.

The key elements of this program’s success were relevance and value. Focusing the scholarship on digital marketing attracted interest from students and educators alike, aligning perfectly with our brand’s expertise. The authenticity of genuinely wanting to support the next generation of marketers resonated, creating a network of advocates who naturally linked to our website and boosted our online presence.

To measure the impact, we tracked the growth in referral traffic and saw a notable increase—over 30%—in organic visits originating from these high-authority educational domains. This not only improved our site’s search ranking but also positioned RankingCo as a thought leader in digital marketing education, which resonated with our client base and bolstered trust in our brand.
