Which freelancing skill should I learn?

Hitting Deadlines

As a freelancer, hitting deadlines is essential for getting repeat business and maintaining an excellent reputation. Missing deadlines not only reflects poorly on the freelancer but can also have tangible consequences like financial penalties for the customer who hired you. The first step to avoid missing deadlines is to plan ahead carefully by allocating enough time to complete projects and building in some extra time for contingencies. Planning ahead will help you manage your workload better and prevent last-minute rushes, which often result in missed deadlines. It’s also important to be honest with yourself about how much work you can handle at one time. Trying to take on too much work could lead to delays within your own timeline which may ultimately cause you to miss deadlines. Don’t take on too much so that the client won’t ask you back!

Data Mining

For freelancers looking to increase their earning potential, data mining can be a powerful skill. Knowing how to research data online and accurately interpret it can provide valuable insights for businesses or individuals hiring freelancers.

Data mining is an effective tool for data analysis and people who possess skills in data mining can look forward to higher billing rates as clients appreciate the comprehensive data-based solutions provided. A freelancer with this valuable skill will have an edge over those without it, especially when pitching projects to prospective clients.

Time Management

If you’re looking to earn more as a freelancer, the most important skill you can learn is how to manage your time. It’s easy to get caught up in the idea of working all the time and making money—but if you don’t know how to manage your time, you’ll end up working yourself into a corner and feeling like there’s no way out.So when I say “manage your time,” what I really mean is “knowing how long things take.” This can be as simple as keeping track of the last 10 times you’ve completed a project or taking notes on the amount of time it took each time. You might find that some projects take longer than others, or that one type of project takes less time than another. Once you have this information, you’ll be able to make better decisions about how long future projects should take—and even charge for them accordingly!

User Testing

In today’s challenging world, one has to have a freelancing skill or two to earn more. The majority of people do not possess any special skills. The one freelancing skill people can easily learn is User Testing.

The gen-next already uses smartphones and laptops right from their childhood days. User Testing requires just that. Many businesses fail to take off because of bad user experiences on their websites and apps. That’s where a User Tester comes in who actually tests the navigation and overall user experience on websites and apps in real-time from a layman’s point of view.

His/her feedback helps the company in fixing bugs and glitches for improving the UX. A User Tester doesn’t have to undergo any special training and is basically in the shoes of an average user all the time. A User Tester can earn from $10 to $20 per hour and with a little programming knowledge, even up to $30 per hour. Registering on many User Testing sites for getting the required openings, is also free.

Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization is a freelancing skill that anyone should learn if they want to earn more money (SEO). The process of optimizing a website so that it appears higher in search engine results is known as SEO.

SEO strategies include keyword research, link building, content optimization, and website structure optimization. By optimizing a website for a specific audience, freelancers can increase its visibility and generate more traffic, resulting in more potential customers and revenue.

To begin, freelancers should research and understand the fundamentals of SEO, such as how search engines work and which SEO practices are most effective. They should then devise a strategy for optimizing the website.

Web App Development

Web apps were utilized by many companies, including restaurants, pizzerias, and even grocery stores, to enable customers to shop online and have their purchases delivered to their homes.

One of the key causes of the increase in demand for web app development in 2020 was this. And it will stay that way for a while as we get used to the new normal. The fact that online apps function just like mobile apps on smartphones is fantastic. As a result, creating native Android and iOS apps for businesses is less expensive.

Graphic Design

One of the most in-demand skills in the world of freelancing is still graphic design. This market is one of the busiest, despite that. The issue with the majority of independent graphic designers is that they provide services across a wide range of businesses, such as logo design or poster design.

If you want to provide a more marketable service, you should choose a niche market that is more narrowly defined and has fewer competitors. For instance, Twitch emotes’ presentation or design. With the appropriate approach, you can use this aptitude to make a comfortable livelihood.

Self-Learning Through Perusing Online Educational Materials

Get used to learning new things on your own by perusing tutorials, watching videos, or browsing discussion forums. Making the decision to acquire a new skill that is completely outside of your comfort zone is a fantastic method to practice self-learning.

For instance, even if you know nothing about vehicles, you can learn how to change your oil (and then do it!) You can definitely learn everything you’ll need to for clients once you learn anything painful and challenging.

Balancing Quality and Speed

Before joining this team I was freelancing for some time, and learned that in order to earn more you have to develop and be good at either one of these skills: 1) Speed over quality: in the modern era, where every task assigned today has a due “yesterday”, you must be agile and develop a skill of finishing your work fast. 2) Quality over speed: although being fast is good because everything changes quickly, there’s a lack of uniqueness in today’s market. Therefore, I advise you to work on quality even if it takes longer but make sure you deliver the uncomputable standard of your work. And the golden rule: when you take a freelancing job – ask your boss/manager “What do you need at this very moment: quality or speed? I am good at one at a time. Eventually, you’ll learn both skills and you’ll be able to combine them and reach the top. But to start earning more, choose to develop one skill at a time.

Communication

One important skill for freelancers to develop is the ability to effectively communicate with clients and team members. This can involve everything from writing clear and concise emails and proposals to presenting your work to clients and negotiating terms.Effective communication is crucial for building strong working relationships and ensuring that projects are completed successfully. It can also help you stand out to potential clients, as clear and effective communication is often a key factor in building trust and credibility.By developing strong communication skills, you can better serve your clients, build strong working relationships, and increase your earning potential as a freelancer.

Selling Yourself

I successfully ran an independent consulting practice for years.  Many would approach me to say, “I want to do what you do.”  My response was, “So you want to sell?”.  Most replied, “no I hate selling.”  That is the problem in a nutshell.  For what it is worth one of my solutions was to visualize to myself the primitive need to hunt a wooly mammoth. It might not be what I wanted to do today, but it was what I needed to do for the tribe to eat.
