What Was Your First Post on Instagram?

Instagram has become a powerful platform for businesses and individuals alike to share their stories and connect with their audience. In this article, we take a trip down memory lane with four successful entrepreneurs and professionals as they share the stories behind their very first Instagram posts. From a CEO’s dinner that marked the beginning of their Instagram journey to a community manager’s early days in Italy will inspire you to reflect on your own social media beginnings.

Dinner Was the First Post in My Instagram Journey

My very first post on Instagram was back in 2012 when I shared a picture of my delicious dinner! It was spaghetti with roasted veggies and mushrooms. Little did I know, this simple post would be the beginning of my successful journey through Instagram.

Looking back at it now, I can’t help but laugh and smile. I’ve since made many more posts, and I’m grateful to have been able to share my experiences with the world through this incredible platform.

T-Shirt Research Project Unveiled

My first Instagram post was for a t-shirt we were selling as part of a research project to identify unifying strategies for ideological tribes based on user metadata. The t-shirt had an image and slogan that was used as a moniker for the tribe members we were analyzing.

The t-shirt was a flop, but we uncovered the algorithms that Instagram used to apply user metadata to the platform’s psychographic targeting algorithm.

Rockhold Karate’s Teamwork Debut

Wow! That took a while to find. I have more posts on Instagram than I thought. Rockhold Karate’s first post was on March 21, 2013, almost 10 years ago! And it was all about teamwork.

Facialteam’s Early Days in Italy

Our breakout post on Instagram didn’t even include a text description or any tags! We posted a simple, unedited photo of a group of women, mostly Brazilian, who came to Milan to meet with us as they were interested in facial feminization.

It was on April 30th, 2015, and only got 24 likes, but you can see in their unfiltered smiling faces it thrilled them to meet our team members at our free FFS orientation event in Italy, much closer than our base in Spain.

Facialteam was only 5 years old and had under 10 employees. We spent plenty of time reaching out to the trans communities in different countries, as the world was a very different place and social media had not yet reached every nook and corner of society.

There was no Zoom yet, only Skype, but in facial gender affirmation, many people still preferred to meet in person when making such gigantic life decisions. How the planet has changed!
