What Are Some TV Shows About Marketing?

Marketing.Media.Money

CNBC nailed it with this one. Marketing.Media.Money, hosted by Julia Chatterley, sets its aim at helping those interested in marketing keep pace with a quickly growing industry via interviews with marketers and advertising specialists who are at the forefront of keeping the field.

The show does an excellent job bringing in marketing execs from household-name companies and really getting deep into where they came from, what they’re planning, and how they work. There are five seasons available at the moment, and the topics are always changing—I’ve seen episodes in everything from media consumption research, marketing tech breakthroughs, budgeting, and brand building.

Shark Tank

Shark Tank is my favorite show that’s about marketing. Watching entrepreneurs pitch their ideas or products to potential investors is inspiring, and I always learn something useful from the Sharks’ feedback and advice.

Shark Tank provides an interesting inside look at the world of marketing strategy, as contestants must combine good storytelling with solid numbers in order to convince the Shark Panelists to invest in their visions.

Every episode features unique business challenges and showcases inventive solutions, which serve as great learning experiences for anyone interested in marketing.

Emily in Paris

My favorite marketing show is Emily in Paris on Netflix. A marketing company in Paris hires a young American woman, Emily, from the Midwest to give them insight into American culture.

Her quirky yet interesting social media marketing ideas blew my mind throughout the show. Her marketing ideas are always fresh from the oven and admired by her clients and the team.

One thing which I love about her is that she never stops working, even on vacation. She can work from anywhere, anytime.

Mad Men

Every advertiser’s introduction to copywriting and the illusion of working in an agency. I think we all assumed that working in an agency was simply sitting in a room with your best buddies, sipping on some “old-fashioned” bourbon whiskey, and thinking of attention-grabbing copy to persuade the everyday person to purchase some ketchup. Sadly, it’s much more complicated than that and less fun with no alcohol included.

Keeping Up With the Kardashians

My favorite TV show about marketing is Keeping Up with the Kardashians. The popular reality show follows the lives of the famous Kardashian-Jenner family and explores their business ventures in the marketing world. Keeping Up with the Kardashians provides an inside look at various strategies used to promote products, services, and brands.

By creating campaigns on social media platforms to launch their own products, the show offers viewers inspiring insight into how they can use marketing to further their businesses. Keeping Up with the Kardashians is a great example of how effective and impactful marketing can be.

Ad Genius Lee Tae-baek

As the name implies, the story is about a man named Lee Tae-Baek. The setting is an advertising agency where Lee is trying to climb the corporate ladder. He is a man of humble beginnings and stays true to his roots throughout the series. This drama is light-hearted and does not delve too deeply into the drama genre.

The ‌lead is relatable and sweet, which makes you root for him throughout the series. It is a warm and comforting drama and you want Lee to succeed in every project he takes on. It highlights the advertising industry, which thrives on creativity. The show has light-hearted humor while touching on topics such as homelessness, elitism, gentrification, and displacement.

Girlboss

Girlboss is a charming, inspiring, and fun TV show loosely based on the life of Sophia Amoruso, founder of Nasty Gal. It tells the story of a rebellious, ambitious, and poor misfit and her journey to the top. Sophia’s passion for fashion leads her to start an Internet business. The business turns out not to be a piece of cake, to put it mildly. The girl has problems mainstreaming alternative fashion. She learns to be a boss, promote her brand, and never give up.

Seemingly lighthearted, Girlboss also offers valuable lessons on hard work, pursuing a passion, and fighting to make our dreams come true. Sophia’s story reminds us of how empowered women can be when they want something badly.

Nathan for You

Nathan For You is a great show that’s humorous and gives good marketing advice at the same time.

The episode “Dumb Starbucks” is a great example of viral marketing done right. They opened a cafe called “Dumb Starbucks” and added “dumb” to the name of every drink, pretending to be a parody of the popular chain.

This unironically drew a ton of business to the cafe, and their story actually went viral in the media.
