How do I go viral on Twitter?

From creating engaging content to keeping it simple, here are five answers to the question, “How do you go viral on Twitter?”

Create Engaging Content

I was part of a viral Twitter campaign for a charity organization last year. The goal was to raise funds and awareness for the cause. If you want to know how to go viral on Twitter, there are a few steps that can help you reach your goal.

First, create engaging content that is useful and relevant to your target audience. This could include videos, images, stories, or other forms of media. Use hashtags wisely and strategically in order to spread your message quickly.

Finally, use influencers to help promote your campaign and gain additional reach.

Post a Success Story

One viral Twitter campaign I was a part of for a local nonprofit organization. It centered the campaign on a hashtag, #GivingTuesday, and the goal was to raise awareness and funds for the organization.

We began by creating visually appealing graphics and videos to share on social media, highlighting the work of the organization and the impact of donations. We also reached out to influencers in the community to share the campaign and encourage their followers to get involved.

The campaign was a tremendous success, with the hashtag trending on Twitter in our city and the organization receiving a record number of donations. The campaign also gained media attention, with local news outlets covering the story.

Overall, the combination of visually appealing content, influenced outreach, and live-tweeting helped to make the campaign go viral on Twitter.

Create an Interesting Infographic

One of the most successful Twitter campaigns I have been involved in was when I created an engaging infographic on “What Time Do People Go to Bed” and shared it on Reddit.

It then quickly gained traction on Twitter, with other users sharing it. This led to media outlets picking up the story, resulting in backlinks from other websites.

Ultimately, even though I had never shared it on Twitter, the infographic still went viral on Twitter.

Create a Single Share-RT Campaign

I grew my personal Twitter from 0 to 3,000 followers in 3 months using this exact approach.

The most effective strategy for getting reach on Twitter is by sharing the “I’ll DM you X if you retweet or comment” type of posts. Here’s an example:

Create an SEO resource on a Google Doc
Write an attention-grabbing hook based on a false assumption: “SEO IS DEAD! My blog content just isn’t ranking.”
Disprove the assumption, claiming that the problem lies elsewhere: “WRONG! You’re doing something wrong, and I can tell you EXACTLY what that is!”
Wrapped the Tweet with a call to action—to like, comment, and RT the Tweet to receive a free resource.

This post alone netted me over 300 followers and a handful of leads.

Don’t Overthink

The simplest tweets get the most engagement. I’ve gone viral several times on Twitter, and the common theme is simple: relatability. Pose a question or comment on a trending or current topic.

People engage with what resonates with them, and it doesn’t have to be a ground-breaking revelation. Also, another pro tip is that when people engage, they interact with them.
