Finding the right photography gear can make or break your creative work during the busy holiday season. This article brings together recommendations from industry experts who share their top picks for 2025, covering everything from mirrorless cameras and prime lenses to portable printers and LED panels. Whether you’re looking to preserve memories, improve your shooting setup, or refine your technical skills, these twelve expert-backed tools offer practical solutions for photographers at every level.
Skip the gimmicky gadgets. Gift a high-quality camera strap—specifically, a Peak Design Slide or comparable alternative.
Here’s why this matters more than another lens you’ll rarely use:
Practical impact:
Eliminates fatigue during long shoots. A proper strap distributes weight across your shoulder and back, not your neck. I’ve done 8-hour wedding shoots and multi-day travel assignments—cheap straps destroy your body.
Quick-adjust functionality lets you transition from hip carry to shooting position in under two seconds. Speed matters when moments don’t wait.
Anchor link system allows instant camera switching for multi-body setups without fumbling with traditional loops.
Professional considerations:
Your shooting frequency increases when your gear is comfortable to carry. Psychology matters—cameras left at home capture nothing.
Reduced gear anxiety in crowds. A secure, well-designed strap means you’re not white-knuckling your camera in busy environments.
Longevity. Quality straps outlast cameras. I’m still using the same strap across three camera body upgrades.
Why it’s the perfect gift:
Most photographers invest thousands in glass and bodies, then cripple themselves with the $15 nylon torture device that came in the box. It’s the unsexy upgrade nobody buys themselves but immediately appreciates.
The immediate feedback is tangible. Unlike a new lens that requires skill development, a proper strap delivers instant comfort. First shoot, they’ll understand exactly why it matters.
Gift the infrastructure that enables better work, not just more gear to carry.
Get them a prime lens. Specifically, a 50mm f/1.8.
This lens forces photographers to move around and think about composition. Zoom lenses make us lazy. We stand in one spot and twist a ring instead of finding better angles.
I bought mine for $125 five years ago. It taught me more about photography than any online course. The fixed focal length makes you work for your shots. The wide aperture (f/1.8) creates beautiful background blur that kit lenses can’t match.
Every major camera brand makes a version of this lens. Canon, Nikon, Sony—they all have affordable 50mm options under $200.
Your gift will actually improve their photography skills. Most gear just takes up space. A prime lens changes how someone sees and captures the world.
As a photographer, I think most people already have everything they need like cameras, lenses, camera bags, and all kinds of gear. But one thing that every photography lover dreams of, yet often doesn’t have, is a professional photo printer.
It doesn’t need to be a super fancy or expensive one; even a simple, affordable printer can bring so much joy. Every photographer wants the chance to print their own work, whether it’s a beautiful family memory or a piece of pure art. Seeing your images come to life on paper is incredibly rewarding, and that’s what makes it such a meaningful gift.
Hot shoe phone mount
One photography item to give photographers this year is a little mount for attaching a phone to the top of a camera, right in the hot shoe. For photographers posting work online or ever wanting to capture behind-the-scenes shots, this tiny, $20 accessory has quietly revolutionized how short-form video content is created.
We see how content creators use them all the time now. Instead of going off on some kind of tangent to set up a second tripod for shooting BTS content, they just stick the phone to the camera they’re using and shoot BTS content of themselves shooting content, all in one continuous stream.
It’s hard to overestimate the impact of this device, now that content creators at every level, from professional photographers to weekend hobbyists, are expected to produce not just photos but Reels and TikToks.
If you have a person in your life who is always running back and forth between shooting with a DSLR and shooting video with their phone, or who wishes there was some easy way to capture BTS material to show followers what really goes on during photoshoots, this is it. It’s not stylish, but it’s a creative tool that’s also practical. So they’ll use it, and it’s a thing they probably haven’t bought themselves yet.
My recommendation for a gift purchase for the holidays would be a portable photo printer. It’s an excellent gift option for photography pros who enjoy printing digital memories into lifelong keepsakes. You can effortlessly print photos right from your smartphone to share and enjoy! It’s the kind of gift that feels personal and thoughtful, and provides those you’re thinking of with an opportunity to make real albums or simply adorn their space with favourite images.
I’d gift vouchers for a printing and framing company. So many people leave their favourite photos sitting on a hard drive, never getting to see them properly displayed.
Printing your photos turns digital memories into something real, something you can enjoy every day. For families, that’s huge. Seeing your children’s faces on the wall, moments frozen in time, reminds you what matters most. It sparks conversations, laughter, nostalgia.
A printed photo becomes part of your home story. And honestly, no cloud storage can compete with that.
The art, tech, and hobby cherished by many people is photography. Whether it’s the professional hired to capture a life milestone or the family historian preserving memories, photographs provide a documented record of our lives. Gifts for the photographer on your list can span from advanced cameras and accessories to creative ways to preserve, enjoy, and share those images.
Here’s one product that meets all those criteria, while also offering uniqueness and personalization—and effortlessly demonstrates the thoughtfulness of the giver. The Heirloom Video Book helps each customer create a customized book that plays videos and photos, complete with background music and artist-designed book covers to delight everyone on your shopping list. Priced accessibly for most shoppers, the book can be embellished with a range of artist enhancements and offers options in physical size and storage capacity—giving creators a wide range of cost tiers. Photographers will appreciate that their efforts to capture images become readily accessible and shareable—rather than stored virtually and possibly forgotten.
A few years ago, I gifted a friend — a fellow entrepreneur who spends half his life traveling — a compact mirrorless camera, and it completely changed how I think about photography gear. The item I’d recommend this holiday season is a high-quality mirrorless camera, like the Fuji X100 series. It strikes that perfect balance between professional capability and everyday portability. I’ve seen how creators, marketers, and even business leaders use it not just to take photos, but to tell better stories — whether for brand content or personal memories. What makes it special isn’t just the image quality; it’s how it inspires people to actually use it. In a world flooded with phone snapshots, having a camera that makes you slow down and be intentional is a real gift — both creatively and mentally.
One photography gift I would recommend this holiday season is a pocket drone. The one we use is the Hover Air X1. It is the perfect option for anyone who wants creative shots but has zero experience with drones. It takes off from your hand, follows you automatically, and takes pictures from angles you could never capture on your own. There is no learning curve. You just choose a mode like Follow or Orbit, and it handles the rest.
What I like most is how beginner-friendly it is. It is small, lightweight, and easy to pack, so you can bring it anywhere without feeling like you are carrying extra gear. The safety cage around the propellers makes it feel less intimidating, and the sensors help prevent mistakes. Even if you have never flown anything before, you can get smooth footage.
For travelers, couples, or anyone who likes documenting their life, it is a piece of gear that actually encourages people to create more. It lets you be in your own shots, not just behind the camera.
I’d recommend gifting a portable LED light panel, something like the Lume Cube or Aperture MC. It’s one of those small, underrated tools that instantly upgrades any photo or video setup, whether someone’s shooting with a DSLR or just their phone.
Good lighting does more for image quality than any new camera ever will, and creatives love gear that helps them create more, not just collect more. It’s practical, fits any budget, and feels personal, especially for anyone who’s documenting their work, building content, or just loves capturing moments that look as good as they feel.
This holiday season, I recommend a high-quality photography backdrop. A versatile backdrop transforms any space into a professional studio, enhancing creativity and elevating a photographer’s work. From bold patterns to classic solid colors, backdrops set the tone for a shoot, offering endless storytelling possibilities. As a leader in visual storytelling, I understand the critical role tools play in inspiring innovation and professionalism—qualities a quality backdrop consistently delivers.
I’d recommend a high-quality photo book or print set from an artist the recipient admires. In a digital world, holding printed work feels grounding. It reminds photographers why they fell in love with images in the first place.
At Artmajeur, we see how physical prints rekindle creative motivation. Studying composition, tone, and color in print form often sparks new ideas for how to shoot or edit.
Limited-edition prints from independent artists.
A curated photography book (architecture, nature, or street).
Matching frames or a simple album for display.
A handwritten note about why you chose that artist.
Sometimes the best gear isn’t gear at all—it’s inspiration printed on paper.
