8 Essential Tips to Ranking Higher on Google Maps

Use Google My Business Posts

The most impactful way to rank higher is by optimizing your Google My Business (GMB) listing. A complete, accurate, and regularly updated GMB listing is crucial for improving your visibility in local search results.

One often overlooked aspect of GMB optimization is using the “Posts” feature. Regularly creating Google My Business Posts, such as updates, offers, or event announcements, keeps your listing fresh and engaging. This can signal to Google that your business is active and relevant, which may contribute to higher rankings in local search results.

However, it’s essential to remember that ranking high on Google Maps is a combination of multiple factors, including GMB optimization, local link building, positive reviews, and accurate location data. Implementing a well-rounded strategy addressing all these aspects will increase your chances of achieving higher rankings on Google Maps.

Make Your Website Mobile-Friendly

Ensure that your website is mobile-friendly. Google wants to provide its users with the best possible experience. Consequently, websites optimized for mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, rank higher in search results. In turn, it drives more traffic to your website and boosts your business’s visibility online.

These days, mobile devices are the most popular way that people access the internet. Google Maps app is not an exception to the rule. Many people use this mapping platform on their mobile devices to find local businesses and services. If your website is not optimized for mobile use, it may lead to a negative user experience and ultimately hurt your ranking on Google Maps.

Build High-Quality Backlinks

Your business will rank higher on Google Maps if you build high-quality backlinks. They affect the overall authority and search engine rankings of your website.

Having high-quality backlinks can be beneficial in the following ways:

1. Boost domain authority: Backlinks from trustworthy and pertinent websites tell search engines that your website is reliable and renowned.

2. Increase local SEO: When you receive backlinks from regional or sector-specific websites, your website’s relevance to your target location is strengthened.

3. Generate referral traffic: High-quality backlinks raise your website’s search engine ranks and encourage referral traffic, which increases user engagement and conversions.

4. Boost brand awareness: Acquiring backlinks from reputable websites will help your brand become more visible online.

High-quality backlinks favorably affect your online presence, resulting in better local search performance and a higher ranking on Google Maps.

Use Schema Language for NAP

First off, add your NAP—the name, address, and phone number of your business to your Google My Business profile. A trick to this, however, is to use schema language. Schema language is a structural protocol that Google and other search engines use for identifying various data sets easier than those without it—to send that high-quality signal that search engines will use to give your listing relevance and authority when users search for something related to your business.

Maintain an Accurate GMB Profile

One tip to rank high on Google Maps is to ensure your Google My Business profile is complete and accurate. This includes providing up-to-date information, such as your business name, address, phone number, and website URL.

Add relevant categories and keywords to your business listing, and provide high-quality photos of your business and products. Encourage your customers to leave reviews on your Google My Business profile and respond to those reviews in a timely and professional manner.

This will help build trust and credibility with potential customers and improve your business’s visibility on Google Maps.

Choose the Right Primary Category

The primary category is crucial for improving your Google Maps rating, so you ought to approach it with caution and care. The category that best corresponds to your company should be set as the primary category. Pay close attention to this; it’s really crucial.

You will always know the primary category that your rivals are employing, which enables them to keep their high Google Maps position. Every action you do is dynamic, so keep in mind that you might need to choose a new main classification, description, title, etc. in three months.

Ensure Your Listing is Complete and Accurate

One way to rank higher on Google Maps is to make sure your business listing is accurate and complete. Make sure you have filled out all relevant fields, such as an address, phone number, hours of operation, services offered, website link, etc. so that customers can find all the information they need without having to look elsewhere. Including quality images and videos can help your listing stand out from the competition.

Encourage and Respond to Reviews

Encourage your customers to leave reviews, especially the ones that were really satisfied with your service. Once you get the review, always respond to it professionally. Thank the ones that left a stellar review, and encourage them to visit you again.

If you received a critical review, interact with it, but don’t argue. Depending on the situation that the customer experienced, you can thank them for the feedback, or apologize if the mistake was made. Sometimes, it can happen that you do not know why a customer left a bad review, and in that case, you can leave your contact information for them to reach out to.

The more reviews you have, and the more you interact with them, the higher you’ll rank on Google Maps.
