14 Gold Mines for Finding Freelance Writing Jobs in 2023

To help you navigate the world of freelance writing in 2023, we’ve gathered recommendations from 14 industry professionals, including community managers, founders, and executives. From Fiverr’s inbound approach to Check Bulk Action’s comprehensive offerings, discover the top websites these experts recommend for finding freelance writing jobs.

Fiverr: Inbound Approach for Freelancers

Freelance writing job boards can be a waste of time. You’re competing against countless other freelance writers and may spend hours pitching and applying with nothing to show for it.

I prefer inbound techniques, and Fiverr has been a key part of my freelance writing career. I don’t put all my eggs in this basket, but I get anywhere from 10 to 40 clients/orders per month on Fiverr.

It’s a great way to have clients come to you without needing to send applications or cover letters. I can preserve my time and focus on my craft.

Balance passion-driven work and flexibility

Promoted by Fiverr

Freelancing is the best way to balance passion-driven work and flexibility – giving people the opportunity to have full autonomy over their career and how they want to work on a day-to-day basis. Whether you’re working at home or on-the-go, freelancers can choose the projects they want to pursue, then craft their work experience around it. As a freelancer, you have the freedom to travel the world, spend time with your family, and manage your own schedule.

As we continue to navigate a volatile economy plagued by layoffs and firings, independent work is a great vehicle for financial security. By not being tied down by a singular employer, you can take on more projects, be your own boss, and further develop your own service offerings with new skills – such as AI. With businesses relying on freelancers more than ever before, freelancers today can expand their horizons and work on projects of all shapes and sizes.

MediaBistro: Quality Listings and Resources

I recommend MediaBistro for freelance writing jobs, as they vigorously promote a positive and humane experience. They specialize in the media industry, script, and content creation, creating a dedicated platform for writers seeking job opportunities in these areas.

One remarkable aspect of MediaBistro is its commitment to listing high-quality jobs from reputable organizations. Their meticulous curation process ensures writers come across legitimate and trustworthy job offers, safeguarding them against potential scams or low-paying gigs.

Besides job listings, the platform fosters networking and community-building among its users. Freelancers can engage in webinars, courses, and events, creating a space to connect with industry professionals and exchange valuable experiences.

Overall, MediaBistro advocates for the well-being and success of freelance writers, ensuring they have access to genuine opportunities.

BloggingPro: Consistent, Vetted Opportunities

As a fellow writer who has dipped their toes into the world of freelance writing, I can totally relate to the struggle of finding the right platform for freelance writing opportunities.

In my personal experience, I’ve found BloggingPro to be a fantastic resource for finding freelance writing jobs in 2023. They consistently update their job board with fresh opportunities across various niches, catering to both beginners and seasoned writers.

What really sets BloggingPro apart for me is their dedication to vetting each job listing, ensuring that they only post genuine and high-quality writing gigs. So, if you’re on the lookout for freelance writing jobs, I’d highly recommend giving BloggingPro a shot.

SimplyHired: User-Friendly and Reliable

As a former successful freelance writer, I can vouch for SimplyHired as a fantastic website to find freelance writing jobs in 2023. I remember scouring through different job boards back in the day, and SimplyHired consistently stood out for its user-friendly interface and wide range of writing opportunities.

A specific example that comes to mind is when I landed a long-term gig writing blog posts for a health and wellness website. The job posting on SimplyHired provided clear details about the project and the client, making it easy to tailor my application and ultimately secure the position.

So, in my experience, SimplyHired has proven to be a reliable platform for discovering quality freelance writing jobs that cater to various niches and skill levels.

ProBlogger: Reputable Job Board

ProBlogger was and still is the best freelancer writing job website. Every other job board suffers from a lack of clients and freelancers, but ProBlogger has been around forever and they built up an excellent reputation on both ends.

We use it every time we need to hire writers, and I recommend it to all my clients who sign up for Workello and need to source candidates quickly. However, as it is quite a large job board for freelance writers, you will get a lot of candidates, but about 80% of them will not be qualified. That is why I recommend setting up pre-hire assessments for your candidates so you can hire the top 1% and cut through the noise.

Facebook: Networking for Writing Gigs

As a full-time freelance writer and blogger, I spent a lot of time looking for new clients and applying for gigs. And my absolutely favorite website for finding freelance writing jobs in 2023 is actually Facebook.

Facebook has an amazing number of groups dedicated to freelance writing jobs where people post job leads all the time. A simple search for “freelance writing” in the website’s search bar should yield dozens of groups of different sizes that you can join.

However, I’ve found the most success by joining blogging groups on Facebook. Often, bloggers in these groups actually make posts seeking freelance writing help in their niche. If you’re a good fit, you can message them back and quickly get a new writing client under your belt.

I’ve found several writing gigs on Facebook over the years just by networking with bloggers and other writers. And, Facebook is completely free, so you don’t need to worry about monthly membership fees.

I recommend Glassdoor, a well-known job search engine that also compares companies. This distinguishes Glassdoor from other employment sites. When you register, you’ll be able to browse hundreds of evaluations and ratings from other employees and post reviews about the companies where you’ve worked.

You can apply for jobs on Glassdoor for free, but you must first create an account by using your email address or your Facebook profile. From there, you can perform a title, keyword, or location search for freelance writing positions.

If you create a profile and complete it with your qualifications and prior experience, you can also receive personalized job recommendations and notifications. The appeal of Glassdoor is that every job posting is evaluated based on corporate standards, including pay, culture and values, career opportunities, and benefits.
